Meta tag <meta> is the complete description (Meta description, keywords, robots,and author information etc.) of your site that communicate with search engine robots and inform them about your web pages and site structure. Since, it is metadata therefore, it does not appear on your webpage but it perform their function well in search engine index and SEO. Meta information is very important about SEO (search engine optimization) point of view. Ignore of Meta elements means ignore of some necessary SEO that result in low traffic on your site and problems for search engines to index your web pages and other uncompleted information may have effects. It is supported by all major search engines and is placed between head tag of your HTML.

Meta title is like the HTML tag but on can use it with the combination in description, keyword and other meta tags. Attractive and relevant phrase that is most important will be written in this meta title tag. The maximum character recommended for this tag are 100 characters.

Meta description is the overall description of your website/blog within the limit of 150 words. You cannot exceed this limit because it is general format of meta description.
Meta keyword:

Meta keyword tag allow you to add important keywords (use Google keyword tool) related to your blog content (niche). Although, Google no longer uses this tag but other search engines like Bing and yahoo use this tag. Add up to 20 most important keywords relevant to your website niche.

The name of author (webmaster) will be written in meta author tag. It does not necessary but it helps to online recognition.
Meta name robots:

Meta name robot communicate with search spider and inform spider about website index preferences i.e. whether you want to index only a single web page or complete website. You will write your choices and search engine spider will act accordingly. You may write ‘index’ ‘all’ and ‘follow’ etc.
There are some other meta tags that you can use to inform search engines like geo.placename, rating, language and revisit-after. Some of these meta tags are not used by the Google but other search engines like yahoo and Bing use them.
How to add meta tags in blogger.
it is important to add meta tags in blogger because it has a valuable impacts on your SEO compaign. some blogger templates have built in meta tags but some have not. So, if your blogger template have not meta tags then follow the below steps,
First step is to login to your blogger dashboard.
Second step:
Scroll to template and click on it.
Now click on edit HTML and Add the below meta tags with in <head></head> usually place it on the top part of head tag under <head>. sample is given below.
